What is a Micro Wedding?
Micro Wedding | Personal & Intimate, looking at the new trend of saying I do.
The world has changed a lot since 2020 and we have had to look at how we move forward. The Wedding Industry especially has had to adapt and evolve creating a new trend Micro Weddings, which is usually a celebration of under 30 people. Smaller in size means weddings are often cheaper, more personal and more relaxed. More quality time can be had with ALL of your guests. How often I hear I didn’t even get to say hi to everyone who came.
Having been fortunate to have shot a few last year I thought it would be ideal to create a blog on what happens at a Micro Wedding and it certainly is something that should be considered for your special day. Weddings should be about you and the most important people in your lives, not necessarily having to cost the world.
Depending on your required coverage, you can usually tailor a package to suit you with your photographer. I have found 5/6 hours under the current restrictions works well.
‘People seem to be put off by micro weddings, because they can’t have a party, or great auntie Gladys they haven’t seen since they were 3 might get offended, but at a micro wedding you have your absolute nearest and dearest with you. The people who are supposed to be there and add to the day because you truly want them there and not because you feel like you have to. Love is more important than a party. Love is timeless and shouldn’t be put on hold. A party can happen any time. It was honestly the most beautiful and magical day, and I honestly don’t think I’d change it. As long as you have the person of your dreams at the end of the aisle you already have everything you need to make your wedding perfect’

If you are lucky to have your venue host areas dedicated for the girls and the boys like Bassmead Manor Barns means I can work back and forth capturing the story as the day unfolded. Listening to the boys make nervous small talk with each other as I started photographing the rings in the background I giggled to myself. I asked Tom to let me know of anything relevant to the wedding that I should capture and he returned with Cufflinks from his Christening they were 30 years old! Incredibly special. Paige had also bought Tom a watch to celebrate the occasion, I do encourage you guys to give gifts and wait until I am with you to open them, its such a wonderful moment and I’m there to add it to your story. Tom gave Paige her ‘Something’ Blue in the form of a stunning pair of drop earrings a perfect accompaniment to her dress. One by one I asked the groomsmen to come and have a quick moment with Tom and candidly I shot as they joked and he helped everyone with their ties.
As the girls enjoyed the hustle and bustle of getting ready for the ceremony I encouraged the bridesmaids to get ready first so we could create a moment with Paige’s mum in the Bridal Area. Surrounded by mirrors and a unique hanging for the dress, a poignant moment as her mum finished the last button. Paige was keen to have her father see her before she walked down the aisle, he came and gave her the biggest hug and some words of advice before walking down the stairs to greet everyone eagerly waiting to see her.
The intimate ceremony was held in the most beautiful atmospheric barn, I won’t lie, I did shed a tear when I read their chosen quote of the day ‘Seems silly doesn't it, a wedding given everything that’s going on, Maybe that's the best reason to have it, Because of everything thats going on.’ It was so overwhelming to be back shooting even if only temporary. A ceremony with just 15 people including Paige & Tom, it was everything they had hoped it would be. Sealed with a kiss, and some lipstick! We all clapped and cheered. Exiting to the traditional fan-fair of confetti.
Bassmead provided some wonderful locations for us to spend some time capturing couple images. I shoot really relaxed so you are never forced to stare at the camera. I simply encouraged them to have moments and I simply captured it happening. No Fuss, No awkwardness.
Look how fab these guys were, you would have thought they would have done it all before. I’m so pleased we took a moment to grab little Felix for a shot after his nap in the Rickety Barn, it turned out just perfect.
6 hours had flown by but look at all the content we were able to create with just a few people. Leaving the couple with big smiles, after all the worry and drama of this Pandemic, they had finally said I Do.
